Media Space settings

This page tells your ONIXEDIT Server where media files are stored and which rules apply to them. Files are split into a PUBLIC zone (reachable over the internet — typically cover images) and a PRIVATE zone (protected files). You choose which media types go to each zone, and where each zone lives: the default ONIXEDIT media space, your own FTP directory, Amazon S3 or an S3-compatible service. The page also holds the cover-image validation rules and the per-type file-size limits.

Not to be confused with MediaSpace

This is the configuration page. To browse, download or delete the files themselves, use MediaSpace in the main sidebar.

Where to find it

• Settings menu: Media Space. Route: /preferences/media-space.
• Visible to accounts with access to Preferences. The settings apply to the whole ONIXEDIT Server.

Screen overview

1. Cancel and Save — one Save writes the whole page: zones, locations, credentials, cover rules and size limits.
2. Send these media types in the PUBLIC zone / …in the PRIVATE zone — move media types between the two lists with the arrows.
3. Location of each zone — Default media space, Private FTP directory, Amazon S3 or S3 Compatible — followed by the fields that location needs and a Test connection button.
4. Cover images validation and processing and Limit the maximum size of media files — open the two rule dialogs.

How to choose which media types are public

Every media type starts in the PUBLIC list. Select the types that must stay protected and move them to Send these media types in the PRIVATE zone, then click Save. The on-screen guidance says it: Cover images are preferably stored in the PUBLIC zone.

How to configure where a zone is stored

1. Pick the zone's Location:
   • Default media space — ONIXEDIT's own storage; nothing else to fill in.
   • Private FTP directory — enter the FTP address (files go to a MediaSpace folder on that server), Username, Password and the HTTP address that resolves to that folder on the web.
   • Amazon S3 — pick the Server region (type to filter), then enter Bucket name/Folders, Access key and Secret access key.
   • S3 Compatible — enter the REST endpoint, Bucket name/Folders, Access key and Secret access key. The PUBLIC zone can also set an Alternative base Url and open Advanced (Use SSL/TLS, Addressing model, Signature version, Region specific Endpoint).
2. Click Test connection: The connection test was succesful or Connection test failed. Can't connect to this media space using these settings.
3. Click Save. A non-default location needs all four credential fields; otherwise the page answers Please enter a value for each required field.

Changing the location clears the credentials

Switching a zone to another location empties its fields on purpose. Have the new credentials at hand before you switch.

How to set the cover-image rules

1. Click Cover images validation and processing.
2. Tick Reject images with width less than and set the minimum width in pixels and the minimum resolution in dpi.
3. Tick Reduce larger images width to and set the width and dpi larger images are reduced to.
4. Tick Create thumbnails from cover images when send them to media space if you want thumbnails generated.
5. Click OK, then Save on the page. Reset to default values restores 400 pixels / 72 dpi for both rules and turns thumbnails off.

How to limit the size of media files

1. Click Limit the maximum size of media files.
2. For each Asset Type, enter the Max file size (in Mb); leave it empty for no limit.
3. Click OK, then Save on the page.

Tips

• Cancel asks All modification will be lost. Do you want to proceed? and reloads the stored settings, including the size limits you had staged.
• The Advanced button and the Alternative base Url field exist for the PUBLIC zone only.
• The FTP Password is masked; the S3 Secret access key is shown in clear text — take care when sharing your screen.

Frequently asked questions

I clicked OK in a dialog but nothing changed.

The three dialogs only stage their changes. Click Save at the top of the page to write everything.

Why did my S3 keys disappear?

Changing a zone's Location clears its credentials on purpose, so stale values are never sent. Type them again.

Test connection passes but Save is refused.

Save also requires all four credential fields of a non-default location to be filled in. Check for an empty field.

Where do cover images go?

Wherever the PUBLIC zone points. Cover images must be reachable over the internet, so keep them in the PUBLIC zone.

What does an empty maximum file size mean?

No limit for that asset type.
