Lock Profiles
A lock profile controls what can still be changed on a locked title. Titles are locked to protect approved metadata; a lock profile lists the exceptions — the ONIX elements that remain modifiable — separately for ONIX 2.1 and ONIX 3.0, custom fields included. Profiles are then assigned to users, so for instance marketing can keep editing the blurb while the bibliographic data stays frozen.
Where to find it
- Settings menu: Lock Profiles. Route:
/preferences/lock-profiles. - Visible to accounts with access to Preferences.
Screen overview
- Add, Edit and Delete — the last two need a selected row.
- Table — a checkbox to select one profile, the Profile Name and the Description. There is no search on this page.
- Note — every user starts with the built-in All locked profile; a different profile is assigned through User rights on the Users page.
How to create or edit a lock profile
- Click Add, or select a profile and click Edit.
- Enter the Profile Name (required — A profile name is required.) and optionally a Description.
- In Modifiable 2.1 elements and Modifiable 3.0 elements, tick the elements that must stay editable on a locked title. Ticking a parent ticks everything below it. The CustomFields node under Product covers your custom fields.
- Click OK. The profile is saved immediately.
How to delete a lock profile
Select the profile, click Delete and confirm (Do you really want to delete this lock profile?).
Tips
- The two trees are independent: an element ticked for ONIX 2.1 is not ticked for 3.0. Configure both if you produce both versions.
- A profile with nothing ticked behaves like All locked.
- If the element trees fail to load, the dialog opens with empty trees; reload the page and try again.
Frequently asked questions
Do the ticked elements get locked or unlocked?
Ticked elements remain modifiable while the title is locked. Everything that is not ticked is frozen.
Why don't my custom fields appear in the tree?
They are all represented by the single CustomFields node under Product.
How do I give a user a lock profile?
Through User Rights on the Users page, which is not available in the Dashboard yet. Until then, assign profiles in the previous Preferences application.
What is "All locked"?
The built-in default profile of every user. It prevents any modification of a locked title and is not listed on this page.
