ONIXEDIT Bookstore
ONIXEDIT Bookstore is the ONIXEDIT app for Shopify: it creates and updates the books of a Shopify store from ONIX metadata. Once your catalogue is connected to the app, you send titles to your store straight from the title list with Send selected products to Shopify, without producing or uploading an ONIX file yourself. This page covers the connection and the action; the app itself is documented on the Shopify side.
Where to find it
- Configuration: the Settings menu (gear icon) of the top bar has an ONIXEDIT Bookstore entry (tooltip ONIXEDIT Bookstore - Sell your books with Shopify). It is shown to the account owner of a Cloud or Server Edition account, on a catalogue for which ONIXEDIT Bookstore has been activated (see Media Space for who counts as owner). Sub-users and On-Premises installations do not see it.
- Sending: the Actions dropdown of the title list shows Send selected products to Shopify once a Support ID has been saved for the catalogue and the Bookstore is active on it.
- Progress: the Notifications menu of the top bar lists the task Sending products to Shopify and, when it completes, the number of product(s) sent. This task cannot be cancelled once started.
Screen overview
The ONIXEDIT Bookstore configuration dialog holds a single field, Support ID, and three buttons: Cancel, Test connection and Save. The two last ones are enabled once a Support ID is typed. The dialog reloads the Support ID already saved for the current catalogue, so you can check or replace it at any time.
How to connect a catalogue to your store
- In your Shopify store, open ONIXEDIT Bookstore from the Apps menu and copy its Support ID.
- In ONIXEDIT Cloud, select the catalogue to connect, open the Settings menu and choose ONIXEDIT Bookstore.
- Paste the ID in Support ID.
- Click Test connection. On success the dialog Connection success says: The configuration is valid and connection is successful. Remember to save these settings. On failure, Configuration validation failed asks you to revise the ID and try again.
- Click Save. The setting is validated again, assigned to the catalogue and confirmed by the message ONIXEDIT Bookstore configuration saved.
The catalogue is reloaded and Send selected products to Shopify appears in the Actions dropdown. If it does not, sign out and back in: the entry depends on catalogue settings that are refreshed at sign-in.
How to send titles to your store
- Select the titles in the list, or run a search. With nothing selected and no search, the whole catalogue is sent.
- Open Actions and choose Send selected products to Shopify.
- Confirm the first question — Do you want to send current selection to Shopify?, Do you want to send the current search results to Shopify? or There is currently no product selected. Do you want to send all products in this catalogue to Shopify? — followed by the number of titles.
- Read the second confirmation, which recalls your plan: Your current ONIXEDIT Bookstore plan: and Remaining imports for this month: with the remaining and maximum counts. Click Confirm transmission of [[TITLEAMOUNT]] product(s) to your Shopify store.
- Follow the task Sending products to Shopify in the Notifications menu. When it completes, the books appear in your Shopify store.
When your monthly allowance is used up, the action stops at once with No remaining imports! — There is no more imports available for your current ONIXEDIT Bookstore plan — followed by the maximum of the plan. Wait for the next month or upgrade the plan in the app.
What is sent
The task takes the titles of your selection or search and hands them to the app as ONIX metadata; the app maps them to Shopify products (title, description, cover, price and availability from your supply data). Keep the titles valid and their cover images present: the app can only show what your ONIX carries.
Tips
One Support ID per catalogue
The Support ID is saved on the catalogue, not on the account. If you sell titles of two catalogues in the same store, save the same ID on both; if you run two stores, each catalogue can point to its own.
Imports count against a monthly plan
Every title sent counts as one import, whether it is new or updated in the store. Send a search result or a selection rather than the whole catalogue when only a few titles changed.
Frequently asked questions
What is ONIXEDIT Bookstore?
An app for Shopify stores that creates and updates books from ONIX metadata. Connected to ONIXEDIT Cloud, it receives your titles directly, without exporting and importing an ONIX file.
Where do I get the Support ID?
In your Shopify store, open the ONIXEDIT Bookstore app from the Apps menu and copy the Support ID it shows. Paste it in the ONIXEDIT Bookstore configuration dialog of ONIXEDIT Cloud.
Why do I not see ONIXEDIT Bookstore in the Settings menu?
The entry is shown to the account owner once ONIXEDIT Bookstore is activated for the catalogue. Sign out and back in after an activation; if it is still missing, contact ONIXEDIT support.
Is there a limit to what I can send?
Yes. Your ONIXEDIT Bookstore plan allows a number of imports per month. The confirmation shows the remaining imports, and the action refuses to run when none is left.
