ONIXEDIT AI assistant
The ONIXEDIT AI assistant answers your questions about ONIXEDIT Cloud and the ONIX standard from a panel docked beside your work. It writes its answers from the ONIX documentation and the ONIXEDIT manuals, lists the sources it used and suggests follow-up questions. The assistant is a subscription add-on with a daily number of questions per account. With the same add-on, ONIX 3 catalogues also get Generate with AI in the title list and Enrich with AI in the entry form.
Where to find it
- The ONIXEDIT AI assistant icon (a sparkle) sits in the top bar, left of the Media Space icon and the Settings gear. Click it to open or close the panel; the panel stays open while you move between the title list and the entry form.
- The icon is shown on the hosted platform only to the accounts that have the ONIXEDIT AI add-on. It never appears on an On-Premises installation, on a small screen, or when the installation has switched the assistant off.
- Every user of an entitled account may ask questions; the daily allowance is shared by the whole account.

Screen overview
- The header: New conversation, Open in a separate window and Close the assistant.
- The conversation: your question, then the answer, with the ONIX elements and codes it names highlighted. The ONIXEDIT products, manual pages and web addresses it mentions are links; they open in a new tab, so your work stays open.
- The daily counter, the attachment button and the question box.
The icon turns amber when most of today's questions have been used and red once the allowance is exhausted.
How to ask a question
- Click the ONIXEDIT AI assistant icon in the top bar. The panel opens on the right.
- Type your question in the box and press Enter (Shift+Enter inserts a line break), or click Send. Ask in English or in French: the assistant answers in the language of your interface, in English for Spanish and Portuguese.
- The answer appears as it is written. Click Stop to interrupt it; what has arrived is kept.
- Follow up in the same conversation — the assistant remembers the last exchanges — or click New conversation to start afresh.
Two shortcuts ask for you: More with ONIXEDIT AI in a field's help (the question-mark icon of the entry form) asks about that ONIX element, and Explain with ONIXEDIT AI on a line of the error summary asks how to fix that error. The question is sent at once; if the assistant is busy, it waits in the box.
It does not read your titles: paste or attach what it should look at.
What an answer contains
- Sources — the documents the answer was written from. A source that carries a link opens it in a new tab.
- The thumbs up and thumbs down buttons, which rate the answer.
- Go further — follow-up questions the assistant suggests. Click one to ask it.
How to attach an ONIX file
- Click the paper-clip button under the conversation and choose a text file — ONIX, XML, TXT, CSV or JSON, up to 100 KB.
- Ask your question, for instance "Validate this file and list what should be improved." The attachment is sent with that question only.
- The answer includes the validation results and the improvements to consider.
How to open the assistant in a separate window
- Click Open in a separate window in the panel header.
- The conversation continues in its own browser window, which you can place beside ONIXEDIT Cloud; the docked panel closes. The window keeps the context of the page you opened it from.
How to rate an answer
Click the thumbs up or thumbs down button under an answer. The rating cannot be changed afterwards.
How to generate and enrich titles
The add-on also lets the assistant write ONIX 3 titles — never ONIX 2.1 ones:
- Generate with AI, in the toolbar of the title list, builds a new title from a text you paste and opens it in the entry form.
- Enrich with AI, in the toolbars of the entry form, completes the open title without losing anything, and shows what it added or changed before you apply it.
In both cases nothing is invented — what the assistant does not know becomes a [[ ... ]] placeholder to fill in — and nothing is saved until you save the title. Generations have their own daily counter, separate from the questions; the dialogs show it. If an identifier the assistant wrote already exists in the catalogue, the entry form asks the same question as when you type one.
How to get the assistant
The add-on is enabled on your account by ONIXEDIT rather than purchased online. Contact ONIXEDIT to take part if you are the account owner; sub-users ask their account administrator. Once the add-on is active, sign out and back in: the icon appears in the top bar.

Quote the message
When a validation error puzzles you, click Explain with ONIXEDIT AI on its line in the Error Summary, or paste the message into the question: the assistant explains which element or code is expected.
Answers are generated by an AI
They may contain mistakes. Check important points against the ONIX standard, and never paste confidential information: what you send is processed by the assistant's service.

Does the assistant see my titles?
Only what you paste or attach in a question. It knows the ONIX version of the catalogue you are working in and whether you are in the title list or the entry form, nothing more.
Why is the icon missing from my top bar?
The assistant is a subscription add-on and can also be switched off by the installation. It is shown only to accounts whose subscription includes it, and never on an On-Premises installation.
What does the counter under the input mean?
Each subscription tier includes a number of questions per day for the whole account. The counter shows how many have been used today; when the limit is reached, the assistant is available again the next day.
Are the answers always right?
No. Answers are generated by an AI and may contain mistakes. Check important points against the ONIX standard, and use the thumbs up and down buttons to tell ONIXEDIT which answers were helpful.
Can the assistant write my titles?
On an ONIX 3 catalogue, yes. Generate with AI builds a new title from a text and Enrich with AI completes the title open in the entry form, without inventing identifiers or facts. Both draw on a daily number of generations, separate from the questions.
